Lead and Deliver’s origin story

Every superheroine has a good origin story…

Lead and deliver was born on November 5th, 2014 after weeks of assessments and intense self-reflection.

I began the Find Your Forte program merely wanting to identify what I wanted to be when I grew up. I had a track record of delivery excellence. I was definitely recognized as a “rockstar” on my team and with the people I worked with. I was poised for growth, but I had never really focused on my brand.

More importantly, I had never focused on my purpose and how that aligned with my career. Yes, I had all of the pieces and parts (i.e., elevator speech, Strengthfinders, etc.), but I didn’t have a succinct way to articulate my strengths and my gifts, how they align to my purpose, and how my purpose could align to business goals.

leadanddeliverI remember the day. My a-ha moment. We talked through my gifts, my passions, and my motivations and started talking about my affinity for – almost magnetism to – complex projects. I was drawn to troubled projects like Winnie the Pooh is to hunny. But why? I began to think back on my toughest projects over my career and realized that those were my strongest friendships and had the best stories. We called them “storyworthy” and the #storyworthy hashtag was born.

And then… Lead and Deliver.

Yes! This is it! This is what I do. In everything. At work. At home. With my friends. It all made sense. IT WAS ME! It was the first time I was able to embrace who I was and articulate how this helped me excel in my work and the things that I was passionate about.

What next?

Since that day, I have used my leadanddeliver.com blog to share lessons I’ve learned in the project/ program management and data analysis spaces, as well as my thoughts and experiences with career development.

But November 5th was so much more than that for me. With purpose at the forefront and a purpose-driven professional development plan in hand, I have been able to structure conversations and leverage my gifts to contribute to my professional growth. I have been able to identify and even create opportunities. And I’ve been able to support my team by creating a space where purpose is at the forefront.
